Fines Ranging For Cyberattacks Violations

The HKSAR Protection of Critical Infrastructures (Computer Systems) Bill is expected to be gazetted for the First Reading and Second Reading in the Legislative Council within this month. The Bill seeks to impose statutory requirements on designated operators of critical infrastructures to ensure that they take appropriate measures to protect their computer systems and minimize the chance of essential services being disrupted or compromised due to cyberattacks. Organizations will be fined for violations, with maximum fines ranging from HK$500,000 to HK$5 million.
